Don’t miss out!
If you follow me on Facebook, please consider subscribing to me on Substack. It’s free. (At least, it’s free for now.) Here’s why it matters: Facebook and Instagram are showing non-boosted posts to smaller and smaller audiences. “Boosting” means paying to have my posts shown. If I don’t, you might never see my posts.
Subscribing here means you’ll never miss a thing, including any special offers I share on Mondays and Fridays.
I took a real break this weekend
Something I needed badly after a stretch of working until 8 p.m. I spent some time on my miniature mouse house (a long-running project for mouse inhabitants that’s nowhere near done), and just that small change of pace helped.
This will be the kitchen. The patterned wallpaper will be a focal point, but the other walls will have green stripes. I have cute china for the cupboard, and a window goes above the dry sink to the right. The light fixtures look a little wonky, but they’ll be straightened out when I’m done. I painted the cobblestone floor. I’ll be adding a shelf unit to the left wall, one that can hold a lot of canned goods and so on. Projects like this seem to take forever! But once I get momentum, I tend to zoom right along!
And here’s the look I’m going for (courtesy of AI)—

Important updates:
Purple, Blame, Game officially releases tomorrow, June 2, in all formats — which means today is the last day to grab the paperback for $10, nearly $6 off the regular price. And it’s more than just a novel: the paperback and the digital version both include a link to bonus content — recipes, a bonus scene, two crochet projects, and a recycling project. If you’ve been on the fence, now’s the time. https://amzn.to/4e4mLy2
All In, my Brick Lansky poker book, is now available as an audiobook — AI-narrated, which I know might raise some eyebrows. Here’s my reasoning: human narration runs about $3,000 and can take months. This way, I can get the book into your ears quickly and get back to writing the next one (Gingerbread, Dead, Man). I’m genuinely curious what you think of the narration. Listen to a sample or buy it here.
Tonight at Joanna’s Readers
I’m hosting the Curators of Crime — and it should be a fantastic conversation. Here’s the party place https://www.facebook.com/groups/1602372550058785
When: Tonight at 6 p.m. ET (We will wrap up around 8). Guests: Lane Stone, Nina Wachsman, MA Monnin, and Connie Berry.
I’d love to see you there.
Deals & Steals
June 2–6, Love, Die, Neighbor will be free! — It’s the prequel to the Kiki Lowenstein series. Please share it with a friend! Once a reader meets Kiki, they usually come back for more. Grab it here.
That’s it for now! Love to all—Joanna

Kate, those are great questions--and I don't have an answer. I've contacted my agent to ask because Purple, Blame, Game was written WAY in advance so the audiobook could come out at the same time as the digital and print. Also, I've signed the contract for all of the Cara Mia books to be done in audio, but I know they were rolling them out one at a time, so I guess that's the best non-answer/answer I can share! Please tell me about your minis!
Hi Joanna, this is Kate from UK, a reader of Kiki and CMD and a miniaturist. I wondered if you knew why Apple I-tunes haven't released your last Kiki book and 'Paint Can Kill' as audio books, and whether there's some other way I can get them? Have just finished 'Purple, Blame Game' which was very enjoyable and look forward to an audio version too. Best wishes
