Sara K Peck also used it in 2013. (https://www.sarahkpeck.com/2013/09/the-art-of-asking/). She uses a quote “If you don’t ask, the answer is already no.”

Thinking back, I remember hearing ‘if you don’t ask, the answer is no’ back in the late 70’s but I don’t remember the source.

And Carol is right. It’s been said a lot. But I liked how Madonna put it.
